Heather Rose: How did you hear about Fantasy Action Sports League? James: I head about it online. I signed up because I liked the layout of the Web site, creating teams is fairly easy, and the points system makes a lot more sense. It's based on heat scores for each event, so every heat that every surfer surfs counts towards their score.

What exactly was your strategy when it came to last year? I had Bede Durbidge on my team simply because not many people were picking him, and for the last couple years he was top three in the world. He's usually a quarterfinal finish or better in any event, so I took advantage of having him on my team all year and I think it paid off.

How exactly are you going to spend all that 5,000 dollars? I wanted to go on a surf trip to Puerto Rico, but I've got to talk to the wife about that one. For now, we're just going to use it to pay off some Christmas bills. We'll find a good place for it, thought.
