DAVAO CITY, Feb. 6 (PNA) -- At least seven clubs are joining the Tropang Growee 3rd Tancontian Judo Championships and Jiu Jitsu Invitational, both slated on Feb. 13 at the Gaisano Grand Citimall in Ilustre Street here. Tournament director Paolo Tancontian of the Tancontian Judo Club said the clubs are the Davao Masters Judo Club under Bing Aseneta, MATS College Judo Club under Jay Aseneta, Kidapawan Grapplers under Gilmar Tangayan, Python's Pit under Bambi Posadas, Warrior Brazilian Jiu Jitsu of Amir Achacoso, Dakudao High School of Malagamot, Panacan under Regina Aseneta and the Holiday Gym and Spa. "We hope to discover new and young potentials in this tournament," said Tancontian, an 8th time national champion and former member of the RP national judo player. The judo competition will be played from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., while the jiu jitsu will start at 3 p.m. The categories in judo are: Kiddies (boys and girls) - 9 years old and below, 11 yrs. and below and 14 yrs. old and below; Juniors (17 years old and below) boy's - 55 kgs., boy's +55 kgs. (open weight), girl's -50 kgs. ; girl's +50 kgs. (open weight); Men's - 55 kgs., -60 kgs., -73 kgs. ; men's open weight; Women's -45 kgs., -52 kgs., -60 kgs. and women's open weight. The jiu jitsu will have categories for the Kiddies, Junior, Men and Women. They are the: Kiddies - (boys and girls) 9 yrs. and below, 12 yrs. old and below, 14 yrs. old and below, 14 yrs old below (Absolute/Open weight); Junior (17 yrs. and below) - boys' -55 kgs., boys' Absolute/Open weight; girls' -50 kgs., girls' Absolute/Open weight; Men's -55 kgs., -64 kgs., -70 kgs. and Absolute/Open weight; Women's -50 kgs., -60 kgs., and Absolute/Open weight; and Master's Division Absolute/Open weight. Medals will be awarded to the winners, while the over-all team champion will get a trophy. The event is supported by the Evangelista Aquatics and Sports Management Inc. (EASMI) in coordination with the Holiday Gym and Spa and the Association for the Advancement of Karatedo (AAK). (PNA)
