COMPARED TO A HIGH-END FULLSUIT with all its bells and whistles, the average springsuit is fairly basic. Instead of the impenetrable glued and blindstitched seams, you're usually getting a flatlock seam. which lets water in and out (though some higher-end springs will have GBS seams). But when the water hits the mid- to high-60s, getting a bit of water through the seams isn't that big of a deal.

And then when the water gets even warmer (about 68 on up, depending on your preference and air temp), you can go with a jacket or thin neoprene or Lycra surf shirt. A top is perfect for those days the water is warm but the air is a bit chilly, or for blocking the wind. And the super thin tops are great for UV protection instead of having to slather sunscreen all over your chest, arms, and back, and then having to ask your friend to rub lotion all over your back. Gross. just get a rashquard instead.
