France's Olympic judo champion David Douillet, out of action for seven months with a back injury, has once again postponed his planned return to competition, according to an AFP report.

Douillet, triple world heavyweight champion who missed last year's world championships because of injury, told AFP that he will not compete in next month's Sardinia tournament.

Instead the Olympic champion will aim to take part in his first tournament in over a year in Bonn, Germany from August 12-13.

The 30-year-old has been trying to get over an injury to a disc in his back as he bids to defend his Olympic title in Sydney.

"It will be a bit short," Douillet was quoted as saying. "It's not the training itself that causes the pain. It's everyday movements when I'm tired or stressed."

However, he is not worried by this latest delay in his planned comeback. "I just need a tournament as a point of reference," he added.
